DOWNTOWN HISTORIC LOFT REMODEL

The building was formerly occupied by a gymnasium for the Murray School on Chisolm Street. Modern loft apartments were part of a building adaptive re-use project completed in the early 1990s. This remodel created a new link between the kitchen and living areas, and it established a master bedroom and bathroom in a previously unoccupied space. The new master suite is accessed by a steel bridge, built to match the industrial aesthetic of the existing stair. SY+a worked with the easement holder to extend an existing balcony, allowing for better views of the Ashley River.
