Simons Young + Associates is a collaboration of innovative architects and designers who focus their work in the context of historic downtown Charleston and the Lowcountry.  With a commercial and residential portfolio that includes building rehabilitations and new construction, the firm provides a service-based approach that helps clients realize their project goals. Simons’ early professional experience with preservation architecture in San Francisco and his intimate knowledge of his hometown of Charleston inform his progressive architecture practice.

Born in Charleston, Simons has lived in and experienced the architecture of such great cities as Charlottesville, San Francisco, Charleston, Paris, and Genoa. From each of these places he has developed an intense interest in historic buildings, their materials and methods of construction, and their contributions to the urban experience of each particular place. After working with Page & Turnbull, a preservation architecture firm in San Francisco, Simons returned to Charleston with a firm background in historic buildings. Since 2009 Simons Young + associates has gained a reputation as a thoughtful and resourceful architecture practice with a deep rooted understanding of the complexities of designing in the historic city.

Steve Diesing has over thirty years of experience in architecture. His expertise in assembly of construction documents is complemented by a shrewd eye for design implementation. Steve serves as an excellent resource for large commercial projects and new custom residential construction. Steve gained his architecture graduate degree in St. Louis at Washington University, and spent several years there working with historic buildings.

Jonathan Belgrove is a designer and LEED AP with a primary interest in vernacular homes of the Lowcountry. Jonathan worked for four years with an architecture firm in his home town of Beaufort before moving to Charleston. In the studio, Jonathan works primarily on renovations and additions to residences.
