MID-CENTURY OFFICE BUILDING

As the vibrant core of Charleston’s commercial center pushes north and west, many abandoned and neglected buildings are being revitalized with a heavy dose of creative problem solving. 960 Morrison Drive fits this description. This twenty four thousand square foot, four-story, mid century modern building that is located at a major entry point to the city. For this core and shell rehabilitation project, the interior was stripped to its concrete deck, curtain wall system and steel frame. Simons Young + associates worked to restore the attractive lobby with its terrazzo floor, decorative polished aluminum stair rail system, and winding flights of stairs. The project received unanimous Board of Architectural Review approval for a contemporary modification to the exterior, presenting a more welcoming entrance with a canopy of steel and a new all glass entry.
